SELF DUAL

Self Dual is a slender minicomic with an enclosing trifold cover. A volcanologist researching the material conditions outside a volcano glimpses a mystical counterpart inside. She explores this unseen realm to dire ends. Like In the Sounds and Seas and Burrow, Self Dual explores epistemological questions of how we can best know and understand the world around us—with sensory observation, or with spiritual, intuitive understanding. (The title suggests an answer: in mathematics, whenever an object has a property that is equal to its own dual, it is said to be self-dual.)
